NATIONAL CERTIFICATE
National Certificate requirements: In accordance with South Sudan Nationality Regulations 2011
Nationality Certificate Application Requirements
To apply for a South Sudan Nationality Certificate, the following documents and requirements must be submitted:
Required Documents
- Completed Application Form (Form 1A)
Correctly completed and signed. - Two (2) Passport Size Photographs
Dimensions: 45mm by 35mm (wide). - Birth Certificate or Assessment of Age Certificate
- Identification Documents
Copies or details of previous identification documents, such as an ID or passport (if available). - Witness Information
- The witness must be a South Sudanese National in possession of a Nationality Certificate.
- The witness should be from the same tribe or a relative of the applicant.
- The witness must have first-hand knowledge of the applicant’s identity.
- Blood Group Evidence (Optional)
Written evidence from a reputable medical facility. - In-Person Application
Applicants must apply in person. On-the-spot photos will be taken along with the applicant’s fingerprints.
Eligibility Requirements for South Sudan Nationality
A person will be considered a South Sudanese National by birth if they meet any of the following criteria:
1. Descent from South Sudanese Ancestors
Any of the applicant's parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents (through either the male or female line) were born in South Sudan.
2. Belonging to Indigenous Ethnic Communities
The applicant belongs to one of the indigenous ethnic communities of South Sudan.
3. Domicile Requirements (Prior to the Act’s Enforcement)
The applicant has been domiciled in South Sudan since 1st January 1956. Or, any of the applicant’s parents or grandparents were domiciled in South Sudan since 1st January 1956.
4. South Sudanese Parentage
A person born after the commencement of this Act will be considered a South Sudanese National if either their father or mother was a South Sudanese National by birth or naturalization at the time of their birth.
5. Foundlings
A person who was found in South Sudan as a deserted infant of unknown parents shall be deemed to be a South Sudanese National by birth unless proven otherwise.
Notes
The Blood Group certificate is optional but may be requested. Witnessing: The witness must have a direct and verifiable knowledge of the applicant’s identity and must meet the outlined criteria.
